2nd Dec 09 A community consultation was held with the members of the Idi Resettlement site in Gelephu this afternoon. The main purpose of the consultation was to find out jointly to assess the current socio-economic situation. This will be the basis for further discussion with the community members for the selection of suitable targeted developmental initiatives. It is generally understood that having land alone is not sufficient to bring about progress. This community was resettled to this site in 2003 from their village in lower Zhemgang. The members of this community are still poor and have not been able to move ahead with the exception of a few individuals who have taken up business opportunities.

It is hoped that this consultation will result in the implementation of at least two broad based socio-economic projects that will engage and benefit the entire community. The team will be back in office on the 4th of December, in time for a debriefing to the Executive Committee Members during the monthly meeting on the December 5th 2009.
