A significant milestone was achieved in Mewang Gewog, Thimphu, as the Senior Administrative Officer and Senior Field Officer handed over essential water infrastructure to the community! This handover, coordinated with the local Tshokpa and community representatives, is part of the Living Landscapes: Securing High Conservation Values in South Western Bhutan project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the International Climate Initiative (IKI) project.
Aum Gyem Bidha, 46, from Kimgang, shared the struggles villagers have faced in the past: “In the summer, water would often turn sandy, and at the source, we’d sometimes find dead snakes, rats, and other animals. Water shortages were common due to the small capacity of our reservoir tank.”
But now, thanks to the support of the donors, those days are behind them!
Completed and Handed Over:
Khasakha Village: 15,000L Reservoir, 600L Filtration Tank, and 4,000L Intake
Sigye Village: 14,000L Reservoir and 600L Filtration Tank
Dugaling Village: 27,000L Reservoir and 600L Filtration Tank
Lower Kimgang: 15,000L Reservoir and 600L Filtration Tank
Upper Kimgang: 30,000L Reservoir, 5,000L Reservoir, and 600L Filtration Tank
The project also delivered five water distribution systems across three villages. In total, 11.9 km of drinking water infrastructure has been installed, benefiting more than 160 households across five villages.
The community is deeply grateful for this vital support, bringing a sustainable water source to every household!
