With support from resource person Kaka, Dy. Chief Forestry Officer from the Department of Forest and Park Services, Wangdue Forest Division, the Foundation conducted a comprehensive field study in the Dotikhola watershed area, covering Jumja, Majuwa, Chilauny, Aley, and Jabrey villages. This study focused on assessing #waterquality, #discharge levels, #foresttypes, and challenges faced by #localcommunities.
We held a community #consultation with the community members who will play a vital role as #serviceproviders under the Payment for Ecosystem Services (#PES) initiative. Through the discussions, the team identified the types of services they can offer based on the realities in their community. For the next four days, the team will meet with different stakeholders in Phuntsholing Thromde, who are the #servicebeneficiaries in the scheme, to negotiate the establishment of the scheme.
The PES aims to create a formal partnership between Phuntsholing Thromde and the Dotikhola watershed community to #protect and #sustain this #criticallandscape.
This initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the International Climate Initiative (IKI) as part of the Living Landscapes: Securing High Conservation Value in Southwestern Bhutan project. Together, we are shaping a sustainable future for our ecosystems and communities!
