Her Majesty Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the Founding President of the Tarayana Foundation, visited the ‘Living Landscape: Securing High Conservation Values’ project sites under Dogar Gewog in Paro Dzongkhag on 30th September 2023.
Her Majesty visited the new and old Tshokhangs of Silung Pekar Choling Genzin Dratsang and graced the inauguration of the water post constructed through the project for the 250 monks currently residing at the Dratshang. The WWF Bhutan team led by the Country Director, and distinguished officials from Paro Dzongkhag were also present during the occasion.
Her Majesty met with the community members from the 254 households who benefitted through the water initiatives undertaken through the project and graced the inauguration of water reservoir tanks and water filtrations at Tango (21,000 liters), Salilungpa (5000 liters), & Tashigang (50,000 liters), and visited the areas of springshed interventions and nature-based solutions that were introduced in these villages.
A total of 109,700 liters of water reservoir tanks, intake tanks & water filtrations were constructed, and 12.1 kilometers of HDPE pipes were installed in the eight villages of Tango, Tashigang, Saligoenpa, Sali, Gomchu, Lhagey, Lhajakha and Dawakha villages under Dogar Gewog in Paro.
The project Living Landscape: Securing High Conservation Values in South Western Bhutan is implemented by Tarayana Foundation and WWF Bhutan, and funded by The German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), and the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
