Over 20 Years of Rural Transformation
Meet Krishna Kumari Rai. She is a nurse at the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) in Thimphu. But, that is not the only job she holds. She also makes a variety of products out of waste. And that was made possible after she attended a waste management training carried out by TF and the Kilus Foundation of the Philippines with ADB assistance.
Krishna Kumari said the training has allowed her to fully grasp the destruction people inflict on the environment.
“I am concerned about the kind of environment we’ll leave behind for coming generations,” she says. “So, I dedicate my time to creating awareness on the importance of waste segregation at the source.”
When she’s not helping create awareness, she’s busy breathing new life into the dead waste – by recycling it. Her children pitch in and help whenever they can.
