Empowering Youth for a Greener Tomorrow, Engaging Students in Climate Literacy
The Centre for Sustainability Studies (CSS), under the Gender Transformative Climate Literacy (GTCL) project, in partnership with the Tarayana Foundation, has successfully completed consultations and focus group discussions for Climate Literacy Content Development for the students of grades six to 12. The sessions were prioritized for Tarayana School Clubs, covering eight schools across three Dzongkhags: Woochu and Lamgong Lower Secondary School in Paro, Babesa and Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School, Kuzugchen Middle Secondary School in Thimphu, and Gelephu Lower and Higher Secondary School and, and Sarpang Central School in Sarpang. A total of 237 students participated in the discussions held between August 14th and 22nd.
During the school visits, the students discussed their understanding of climate change, its impacts, and how they relate to it. They also gave input on climate literacy content and delivery mechanisms, such as short videos.
The main goal of the consultation was to gather feedback to accurately assess students’ understanding of climate change and to guide the development of relevant and impactful climate literacy content.
We extend our gratitude to Ms. Thinley Choden, the CEO of CSS, and her team for their valuable contributions and for sharing climate stories with the students.
