The team from the head office, led by the Senior programme Officer, visited Mekuri in Pemagatshel to bring skills, confidence, and new opportunities to the members of Bangyul Kapa Detshen! With support from UNICEF Bhutan, we are excited to share the transformational stories that unfolded during this tour as part of the “Creating Livelihood Options for Youth through the Promotion of Cotton Production” project.
The first training on Gender Empowerment and Financial Inclusion for 24 women from Bangyul Kapa Detshen used P.A.C.E. modules. For Karma Choden, a young mother and community member, it was life-changing: “Now, I will not shy away from speaking my thoughts in public.” Her newfound confidence is one of many sparks of change ignited within the members.
The Pineapple Self-Help Group, founded by the Foundation, joined us along with the Bangyul Kapa Detshen from the next day. They learned new self-help management skills to boost their future success. With over Nu.10 million in revenue from pineapple sales, they are now poised for even more significant growth.
In addition, the field visits brought us face-to-face with resilient individuals like Kezang Dema, grateful for her new home from the Tarayana Housing Programme, and Mizim Zangmo, who finally has 24-hour water access thanks to the NAPA II project. We also met Dorji Choden, a passionate young cotton worker who is finding purpose in her village, and Aum Wangmo, whose solar dryer is helping preserve local produce for all.
Witnessing those individuals rise, thrive, and have bright futures ahead is a blessing and emotionally rewarding.
We are deeply grateful to all our donors, partners, supporters, and well-wishers worldwide. Your continued support is what enables us to reach and uplift those who are often overlooked. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our cause. UNICEF Bhutan
