Tarayana Foundation

"Service from the Heart"

Over 20 Years of Rural Transformation

Scholarships and Learning Opportunities

The Tarayana Foundation provides professional development opportunities for postgraduate students under its young professional’s development programme. This programme enables them to gain field experience and improve their prospects in the job market. The Foundation encourages youth to take up innovative community-based actions in pursuit of enhancing their skills and promoting civic engagement in the communities they live and work in.

The Foundation values and promotes the spirit of volunteerism in youths by introducing Tarayana Clubs in the School. Currently, there are 131 school clubs with 5800 members at all levels of educational institutions ranging from primary schools to colleges in Bhutan. The clubs’ activities are designed based on the needs of their communities. Visiting patients in hospitals without family support, supporting a senior citizen with house renovation, adopting streams and protecting water sources, and helping a single mother with paddy harvesting are some of the activities undertaken by the Tarayana School Clubs.

The Foundation also engages with many rural school dropouts and uneducated youth in creating livelihood options by establishing small enterprises and providing skills development training and market facilitation skills. Some activities include food processing, mushroom cultivation, vegetable production, daphne paper production, clay pottery, hydroponic, cane and bamboo crafts production, and woodturning, which are some of the trainings designed for the youths.

Tarayana’s impact extends beyond infrastructure to include socio-educational initiatives. The foundation has established 40 Early Childhood Care and Development Centers (ECCD), creating a foundation for children’s education and well-being and enabling mothers to participate in productive activities. These centers have been handed over to the districts.
